Fifth Session of the African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (AMCOMET-5)

The Fifth Ordinary Session of the African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (AMCOMET-5) will take place virtually on 17 March 2021 from 13h00 East African Time (GMT + 3). It will be preceded by the meeting of experts on 16 March 2021

The Session will meet to consider, and adopt where necessary, the following agenda items

The report of the AMCOMET Bureau recommending, for endorsement of the Revised Integrated African Strategy on Meteorology (Weather and Climate),

  1. Matters arising from the Cairo Declaration with a view to assessing the progress since AMCOMET-4:
  2. Emerging issues since Cairo such as the compliance to the UN Minamata Convention on the banning the use and transportation of mercury. The Convention came into force in December 2020, and
  3. The impact of COVID-19 on the business and operations of NMHSs and how to assist them post-covid-19.

The decisions of the Session will be submitted to AU Specialized Technical Committee and presented to AU Heads of States and Governments for adoption.
