Tanzania: Tsunami Rumours Are 'A Fabrication
THE Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) dismissed as baseless information being spread through social media over a possibility of Tsunami outbreak. A statement issued in Dar es Salaam by the TMA Public Relations Officer, Ms Monica Mutoni said that the source of the information was fake and the rumours are a hoax. "There is information being spread through mobile phone texts that TMA has issued a warning over a possibility of tsunami outbreak.
Such information is hoax, when you see the message just ignore it," read the statement. The alleged message is quoting the TMA Director General, Dr Agnes Kijazi, as saying that tsunami would hit the Tanzanian coast any time, promising to issue more details later. On Monday TMA issued a statement, saying there was a possibility of strong winds, large waves and heavy rainfall between Tuesday and Thursday.
Like it has been doing for the past one month, the agency continued to warn sea users and residents in some parts of Tanzania to exercise great care with the onset of the rains and strong winds. Two marine disasters have already been reported. Full Article
