AMCOMET to Link WMO, African Space Programmes
At its Second Bureau Meeting, the African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (AMCOMET) decided to link the African Space Programme with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Space Programme. AMCOMET also agreed on an updated Implementation and Resource Mobilization Plan and initiated the establishment of a Regional Climate Center in Central Africa.
The Bureau met from 29-30 May 2014, in Harare, Zimbabwe, and was preceded by the meetings of three Task Forces, which took place from 26-28 May 2014. These Task Forces made recommendations for the Bureau's consideration.
Following the recommendations of the Task Force on the Joint African Regional Space Programme, the Bureau requested the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Ministerial Conference on Science and Technology (AMCOST) to link the African and WMO Space Programmes and integrate the Programmes with other regional programmes, such as the Monitoring of Environment for Security in Africa (MESA) and the African Satellite Meteorology Education and Training (ASMET) programme.
