Climate Change: Stakeholders Say Bridging Early Warning, Early Action Gap will Avert Disasters, Save Lives

ABUJA: As climate change exacerbates vulnerabilities especially in Africa, stakeholders in the meteorological organisations have disclosed that it is critical for Africa to focus more on how to bridge the gap between early warning and early action, so as to avert disaster and minimize loss of lives.

This was made known on Thursday during the opening session of the ongoing 22nd Ordinary Session of the Governing Board of the African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) which is preceded by the Second Steering Committee meeting of ACMAD-ClimSA Project.

Speaking at the event in Abuja, the Director, World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Office for Africa, Amos Makarau, stated that bridging the gap between early warning and early action is very important and as such, the WMO is planning a high level conference in Mozambique in July-August of 2022 to address the issue of climate disasters affecting Africa   ...More
